Easter Is Here!
Easter is here!
Joshua Bush, Discipleship Minister
We wanted to take this time to focus in on one of the most important holidays of the Christian faith. Both Easter and Christmas represent major touchstones for Christianity. Christmas presents us with the origins of our Lord, while Easter displays a critical turning point for salvation history.
The legitimacy of our entire faith establishes itself in this single fact: that Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Yes, Christmas is important because it brings us Jesus’ birth. Yes, Jesus’ death on the cross brought the free gift of salvation to the human race… but Jesus’ resurrection…
Had Jesus not rose from the dead, we would not have a Lord of power, a Lord of love, a Lord of life! Had Jesus not risen again, we would worship a dead god. Compare that with the living God we serve! The fact that Christ conquered the grave means that he has power over ALL things. So much so that not even death–something that all living beings experience– is the final bookend in Jesus’ story.
Easter is a celebration which our faith is sealed with confidence. Imagine if Jesus came and did everything that he did–feeding thousands, calming storms, healing the blind–but failed to defeat the single enemy that all of humanity faces. What kind of God would that be?
Easter points to the fact that we can trust in our God. Easter points to the one and only savior of not only our spiritual selves, but also our physical selves. In the same way that Jesus rose from the grave, we too will enjoy a resurrection like His at the consummation of creation.
Remember what Easter is all about. Remember what our faith hinges on. Remember the resurrected and living Jesus Christ.
